Discover Lennoxville

Lennoxville is a borough of the city of Sherbrooke, located about 5 kilometers south of downtown Sherbrooke, at the confluence of the Saint-François and Massawippi rivers. Formerly an independent town, Lennoxville merged with Sherbrooke in 2002, although attempts to restore its status as an independent town failed in 2004.

Lennoxville was founded in 1819, although the first families, such as the Mallorys, began settling there as early as 1804. The town is named after Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond, who was then Governor General of Canada.

This city also has a remarkable history, notably for having hosted Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States during the American Civil War, who lived there from 1867 to 1868.

Today, Lennoxville is a vibrant and dynamic community, with a population divided almost equally between French- and English-speakers. The town is designated as bilingual, offering services in both French and English.

A place rich in educational opportunities

Lennoxville is a major educational hub thanks to Bishop’s University, Champlain College, and high schools such as Bishop’s College School and Alexander Galt Regional High School. During the school year, Lennoxville’s population grows significantly due to the influx of students from across Canada and around the world.

Transportation and Accessibility

Lennoxville is well connected via Route 143, Route 108, and Highways 10 and 55, providing easy access to Montreal, Quebec City, and even the United States. In addition, the extension of Highway 410 improves traffic flow by bypassing Lennoxville and reducing congestion in the downtown area.
